MORE Blue Ticks! Here are all the social media updates you need to know this week
Twitter
You’ll now get a notification when a tweet you’ve previously engaged with gets a new Community Note attached.
Using TweetDeck? It could soon become a Twitter Blue exclusive feature.
Two-factor SMS authentication is the latest casualty of Twitter Blue, and is now no longer available unless you subscribe.
What does this mean for me?
This Community Notes update could help dispel misinformation and limit false reports, hopefully helping to increase trust in tweets.
If you’re currently using TweetDeck and aren’t prepared to pay for Twitter Blue, you may want to find an alternative. We recommend Metricool, there’s a free version which is suitable for most businesses, or you can opt for one of their paid plans.
Two-factor authentication is a good way to keep your account secure, so this could end up being the push you need to sign up to Twitter Blue. We recommend using two-factor authentication wherever possible.
Instagram
After seemingly deprioritising reels overnight, Instagram is testing a new way to provide more transparency on Reels content by displaying the location of the account that created the reel.
Ever wanted to start a group chat on IG? Well, now you can, with Instagram Channels.
Say goodbye to Live Stream shopping! From March 26th, you won’t be able to tag products during a live stream.
What does this mean for me?
This feature is designed to combat misinformation, so as long as you’re not being naughty, not a whole lot.
More people are using the DM function so it makes sense for IG to lean into this. Channels could help you engage with your audience in a more natural way.
If your strategy for 2023 included paid partnerships, featuring live streams, you’re going to want to reconsider. You’ll still be able to tag products in reels, feed posts, and Stories.
Facebook/Meta
Welp, Blue Ticks landed in Australia and New Zealand and no one is happy about it. Although interestingly, the official page on their website about it has disappeared…
Users are being switched to US user agreements triggered by Brexit.
Meta has outlined the measures they use to protect teen users.
What does this mean for me?
Erm, pass. Hopefully, we’ll understand more over the next few weeks.
UK users will retain their rights under UK General Data Protection Regulation but won’t be covered by the EU’s General Data Protection program anymore. This could have implications moving forward.
As a business user, this doesn’t affect too much, but it’s great if you are a parent or have teens in your life so we recommend checking out this handy infographic from Social Media Today.
TikTok
You’ll now be able to use TikTok in your Mercedes E-Class, which is… handy?
They’re expanding access to their Research API, but only in the US and for non-profit academic researchers.
More ways to share revenue with creators have landed in the form of a new Creativity Program. Currently in the beta stage, creators will be rewarded for posting videos over 1 minute long.
What does this mean for me?
We guess the Mercedes partnership could help you reach new people. But there’s unlikely to be any real effect on users.
Increased API access will help researchers uncover key trends and user behaviours, something that could be useful for generic advice.
If/when this rolls out to other areas and you’re a creator, the Creativity Program could be helpful for generating revenue. Right now we don’t have too many other details, so watch this space.
LinkedIn
In their 52-page Key Professional Development Trends report, the business platform highlights key shifts in the workplace.
What does this mean for me?
You really need to read this report as it includes important insights your business will benefit from, such as increasing employee retention, in-demand skills, and what younger workers look for.
That’s it for this week folks! Remember to sign up for weekly updates direct to your inbox and follow us on LinkedIn for more tips. See you next week!
